Cleaning can be hard work most of the time and certainly occupies a lot of one’s day. Dust and dirt collect on a daily basis and their regular removal means a cleaner and healthier home but it also means a lot of time spent on your hand and knees.
I have recently ended my tenancy contract and have given a month’s notice prior to my moving out. There are so many things that I need to organize and it is driving me crazy. I need to hand the keys in two days and the apartment needs to be as clean and spotless as it was when I first moved in 2 years ago. I have decided to try and tackle the dreaded cleaning process myself because the end of tenancy cleaning is an important part of my contract – it can determine if I get my security deposit back or not.
So the first thing I have decided to clean was the carpet.
It goes through the whole apartment less the kitchen and bathroom and has seen a lot of abuse over the years. I have decided to clean it before everything else as I will need to do it twice so it looks brand new. I use dry cleaning products which give instant results. They also leave the carpet with a nice refreshing spring scent. It took me 3 hours to just do that. I was tired and exhausted and left the rest for the next day.
The end of tenancy cleaning includes every little area of the property so has to be done to perfection. I have continued with the kitchen as I think it is one of the rooms that require extra attention. I started with the oven cleaning as I know it is a hard and time-consuming task. I have supplied myself with a couple of boxes of ‘’Oven Pride’’ and I must say this stuff really works. The results were amazing but there again time-consuming. I have looked around me and have decided that it is just too much for me to do and I really don’t think any of my friends will come and help. Most of us simply don’t have that time for cleaning, so luckily there are other alternatives out there – cleaning agencies.
The agency’s customer service was brilliant.
I described what I needed and was given a quote over the phone which sounded extremely reasonable to me considering they will have everything cleaned in a day. It was going to take me at least a full week to sort everything out as I am working and really don’t think it is viable to get time off work to clean.
On the arranged day, all I had to do is drop the keys off and make sure the team had the electric and the hot water on. I was not required to be present so that saved me from getting extra days off from work. At the end of the day, when I arrived home, I was pleasantly surprised – everywhere was spotless and refreshed. A couple of days later when I handed my keys back to the landlord I was told that the property is left in ‘’mint’’ condition and my deposit will be refunded the same day.
